With news trickling in that TDP head honcho Chandra Babu might contest for the Lok Sabha seat in the coming elections, there are two opinions that are being aired.
If the T Bill gets approved, many TDP members feel that the Lok Sabha elections might get postponed.
A notification regarding the T Bill and delimitation, meaning realignment of constituencies, will surely take some time.
Also, there is a strong rumour that the present government may no longer be in power after January 23.
On the other hand, if a good number of Seemandhra leaders leave the party or if Telangana leaders put in mass resignations, it could lead to the imposition of the President’s rule.
In case that happens, then the Centre will have to decide the time for holding the Lok Sabha elections. This might further delay the elections.
However, there is also a possibility of the parliament elections being held on time.
At a time when a tie up between the BJP and the TDP is being considered imminent, Chandra Babu is looking to make his presence felt in the national politics by contesting for Lok Sabha.
He has also indicated that the BJP leaders too have suggested the same to him.
Setting this aside, many feel that this move of Babu could adversely affect the party’s image in the state.
If Babu gets elected from either the Malkajgiri or Hindupur Lok Sabha constituencies, then the question as to who is the TDP chief minister candidate is bound to arise feel many party insiders.
Also, they feel that YSRCP will use this opportunity to accuse TDP of developing cold feet over assembly elections.
The other section argues that Babu can contest for the assembly despite being voted for Lok Sabha. They say that if Babu contests for the Lok Sabha seat and wins, it will instill confidence among the cadre.
Also, if this helps the party come to power in the Centre, it is bound to help the party’s fortunes.
Meanwhile, it is being said that Chandra Babu Naidu is yet to make his decision.
