After confusing people enough with his frequent flip-flops on Telangana statehood issue, the Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu has now opposed the idea of Rayala-Telangana state that proposes clubbing Kurnool and Anantapur districts with Telangana region.
"Our leader has said we should oppose Rayala Telangana state," the Telangana TDP leader Eraballi Dayakar Rao said.
Quoting Naidu, he said that the party was committed to formation of separate Telangana state but would not agree for any changes in it.
"We stand by our demand that there should be equal justice to all the region while bifurcating the state," Dayakar Rao said.
Now that Naidu's mind is clear in opposing Rayala-Telangana state, it becomes difficult for the UPA government to proceed further on the proposal in the absence of consensus among major political parties.
Otherwise, it will be seen as a solo act by the ruling Congress with the intention of garnering political mileage and grabbing more seats in the coming general elections.
Meanwhile, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, has refused to deny the media reports that the UPA was seriously considering Rayala-Telangana state as a way-out of the current impasse on bifurcation.
"I am not willing to deny the reports," he said and declined to disclose what transpired in his meeting with the State Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha in Delhi.
It remains to be how far can the UPA leadership take the idea of Rayala-Telangana forward in view of the opposition from TDP and also Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), besides resistance from Telangana Congress leaders.
