Capital Update: Guntur Out, Eluru In

Slowly, but steadily, the suspense around the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh is clearing up.

As an initial step, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu has made it clear to various departments that they must now shift base to Vijayawada, which will be used as a temporary capital before a final decision is made.

Accordingly, the officials have already started making necessary arrangements to establish offices in Medha Towers near Gannavaram, which is a stone’s throw from Vijayawada.

Incidentally, this area falls between Vijayawada and Eluru and is endowed with good water facility, connectivity to other areas and rail connectivity. It also borders the national highway which is ideal for approach.

So, it is now being rumoured that this area would be developed into a full-fledged capital city in the coming days.

Now, the million dollar question is what happened to the talk of capital being developed between Guntur and Vijayawada.

In fact, both Babu and his ministers used various forums to hint that the capital would be developed there. However, it now appears that Babu has dumped Guntur in his characteristic style and has shifted his focus to Eluru.

No matter where the new capital comes up, one thing remains common though. And that is Vijayawada.

It is a known fact that all media channels were recently bombarded with stories about how the new capital would be on lines of ‘Putra Jaya’.

So the latest talk from AP is that Chandra Babu took the decision after the foreign delegates hinted that the area between Vijayawada and Eluru would be ideal for his developmental plans.

That is the reason behind his dumping Guntur, it is being said. However, it remains to be seen if this latest version is true or yet another rumour.
