As the process of bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh has reached a decisive stage, the frustration levels in the Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu are growing up.
While attacking the Congress-led UPA government for displaying undue haste in pushing the division process, Naidu remarked that the situation has come to such a pass because TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and YSR Congress Party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy surrendered their self-respect before Sonia Gandhi.
"These two leaders are responsible for this pathetic state of affairs. They went and prostrated before Sonia Gandhi and touched her feet and that is why the state is being divided in this manner," Naidu said.
The political observers are surprised over the TDP chief's logic. If he is genuinely committed to keeping the state united, why cannot he himself approach the Congress President and get across his viewpoint effectively? Can he at least withdraw the consent letter that he had given to the Centre, pledging his party's commitment to the formation of separate Telangana state.
The tone and tenor of Naidu's outbursts against Congress these days have been reflecting his growing sense of disquiet over the developments.
It is unbecoming of a leader of his stature to accuse the political opponents in this manner. If by touching the feet of Sonia Gandhi, one can secure a new state, then others can do the same to keep the state united. Such wild and irresponsible talk will only erode his credibility further.
Already, there is a talk within the TDP circles that the party has lost the goodwill in both Telangana and Seemandhra regions.
