The sensational call money racket involving several politicians is reported to have caused irreparable damage to the image of the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Krishna district, which is considered to be its political bastion after the 2014 elections.
According to party insiders, several TDP leaders in the district had been involved in the call money racket for quite some time. Some of them were even connected with the sex scandal associated with the call money.
The issue is learnt to have come to light with two groups involved in the scam had some differences over sharing of the booty and one of them leaked it to the top police bosses through one of the victims.
With the police pulling the rug from under the feet of the leaders involved in the racket, several TDP leaders have got exposed. The extensive campaign in the media has damaged the image of the party to a large extent.
“Unless the party leadership takes some damage control measures by sacking all the accused from the party, it is going to be tough time for the party to win seats in the next elections,” say sources.
