The Narendra Modi government has presented its first budget in the Parliament. The budget has allocated funds for the establishment of IIT, AIIMS and super-speciality agricultural university for Andhra Pradesh, which is good news. But a quick run through the union budget clearly shows that some vital points have been ignored when it comes to AP.
First and foremost is the setting aside of special funds for the development of a new capital city in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
Similarly, despite announcing the multi-purpose irrigation Polavaram project as a national project, Finance Minister hasn’t allocated any funds to the project during the current budget.
Already, Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu had demanded that funds amounting to Rs 2000 crore should be given for the project. In fact, he had also requested the Centre to give Rs 7000 crore as the expenditure incurred on the irrigation project till date.
Incidentally, Arun Jaitley concluded his speech without once mentioning the status of the proposed petro-chemical university, tribal university or setting up of India’s premier management institute IIM in AP.
The Finance Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to development and growth in the country and ended his speech.
