The Telangana Congress leaders are vying with one another to get into the good books of the party high command.
As a thanksgiving gesture to the party central leadership for granting statehood to the region, the Telangana leaders are requesting the Delhi bosses to convince the Prince-in-the-waiting Rahul Gandhi to contest from their region.
The latest to join the bandwagon is the State Information and Public Relations Minister DK Aruna.
She wants Rahul to contest from Mahaboobnagar Lok Sabha constituency in the 2014 general elections. Aruna, who represents Gadwal Assembly segment in Mahaboobnagar district, requested the AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh to persuade Rahul to chose Mahaboobnagar.
The people of Telangana are grateful to the Congress for fulfilling their long-cherished dream of statehood and are willing to express their gratitude by handing out landslide victories to Congress candidates in the coming polls, she said.
"As a daughter of Mahaboobnagar, I am requesting Rahulji to contest from our constituency and we will show our affection by electing him with huge majority," she said.
Similarly, there is also a demand from other Telangana constituencies to field Rahul or Sonia Gandhi from their region.
The Telangana Congress leaders are planning a series of "victory rallies" across the region to express gratitude to the party high command for conceding the demand for separate state, despite the strong lobbying by the Seemandhra leaders.
