Senior politician from north coastal Andhra Pradesh and state minister for municipal administration and urban development Botsa Satyanarayana is learnt to have decided to call it quits to active politics.
Botsa has been spearheading the politics in north coastal Andhra since the days of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and has built his own strong caste group in the region, particularly in Vizianagaram district.
He also played a major role in the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy cabinet in the last two years.
However, of late, Botsa has been inactive, both in the government as well as the party.
Except holding occasional press meets, Botsa has not been playing any major role not only in the state politics, but also in the district politics.
Enquiries revealed that the major reason for his inactiveness is his health. Apparently, Botsa has not been keeping good health.
There is a talk in the political circles that he has requested party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to nominate him to Rajya Sabha next year so that he would keep away from the stressful politics.
It is learnt the chief minister, too, responded positively to Botsa’s request.
He is right now 65 and if he goes to Rajya Sabha, he would have a peaceful tenure for the next six years, after which he is contemplating quitting politics completely.
His family members have also been actively involved in the north-Andhra politics at present.
For the last three decades, Botsa, who began his career as the follower of veteran Penmatsa Sambasiva Raju, has established his mark in the politics in Vizianagaram district.
Though he served as a Lok Sabha member in the past, his ambition was to become a Rajya Sabha member. Now, he is said to be moving the pawns in that direction.
