The BJP does not need the support of any party to stay in power at the Centre as it has a majority on its own. However, it is considering various alliances in its endeavor to strengthen itself in the South.
In the past, it rejected an offer of alliance by KCR. But fresh reports suggest that this time, the TRS might be made an ally and Kavitha entrusted with a cabinet portfolio. This is a very wrong move by the BJP.
What good will an alliance with the TRS do it? Only KCR stands to benefit entirely from any pact. And he can easily ditch the BJP for greener pastures as is evident from his previous actions.
What the BJP should do is to revamp the organizational set-up of the party in Telangana completely and bring in more charismatic and popular leaders.
The current crop led by Kishen Reddy and Bandaru Dattatreya have been given more than ample time to develop the Party and the GHMC results show that they are incapable of taking on the TRS or strengthening the BJP.
The need of the hour is a more able, honest and popular leadership. That will do the BJP more good than any pact with KCR. Should it need KCR’s support in 2019, it can negotiate with KCR then.
