Bharatiya Janata Party leadership is said to be angry with the Telugu Desam Party for giving repeated leaks to a section of media and social media on a possible alliance between the two parties in the next assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.
For the last few days, there have been leaks in these sections of media about the behind-the-screen talks between the TDP and the BJP over a possible alliance, following a series of developments – like TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi and Union home minister Amit Shah meeting Ramoji Rao in Hyderabad.
Added to this, there have been no strong denials from the local BJP leadership over these speculations.
Though there were statements from some leaders like Sunil Deodhar and Vishnuvardhan Reddy saying the BJP won’t join hands with family-based parties like the TDP and the YSR Congress, they were too non-serious.
There have been no strong denials from any of the party leaders like BJP state president Somu Veerraju or Daggubati Purandeshwari or for that matter, G V L Narasimha Rao till now. This has led to further strengthening of the rumours about a possible alliance between the TDP and the BJP.
Apparently, the BJP national leadership is not happy with these developments, as it is not in a hurry to take any such decisions.
Since most of these speculations are surfacing only in pro-TDP media, it is suspecting that the TDP leadership might be behind these rumours in order to confuse the BJP cadres and bring a psychological pressure on the central leadership.
That must be the reason why it has asked its senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP G V L Narasimha Rao to give a clarification to the media on Monday.
He said the BJP had an alliance only with the Jana Sena Party and there was no need for any further speculations in this regard.
“There is no truth in the reports that the BJP and Jana Sena have parted ways. As per an understanding, we are conducting our own programmes separately so that both the parties have strong footing in the state,” he said.
Stating that the BJP national leadership has focussed on strengthening the party in both the Telugu states, GVL said the party would be expanded to booth level and established a wide network.
“Our objective is to capture power in Andhra in 2024 elections on our own,” he said.
