When the Telangana government submitted a proposal requesting drought relief to the tune of Rs 1500 crore, the Central government sent a team to make an assessment.
The team after touring the state said that the severity of the drought was actually far more severe than what the Telangana government had stated and recommended assistance of Rs 3000 crore. This is one of those rare instances when a state had asked for less than it deserves.
The usual practice is to magnify the losses and siphon off the excess. Hence, it is a welcome relief to see the Telangana government not indulge in such practices at least on this occasion.
They have probably realized that Modi gives only a pittance of what is asked for and that it is better to be on the safer side.
