A news site has released a seven-page list of people who allegedly bought jewels by paying in cash from diamantaire on-therun Nirav Modi.
The story essentially talks about income-tax officials and journalists extorting money from the individuals named in this seven-pager – the veracity of which is questionable.
Among those named here include a newspaper baron, some real estate moguls, several industrialists’ wives and VVIPs.
“This is an uncouth activity and in India due to an unfriendly tax regime, the vast majority prefers to buy gold and diamonds using at least some portion in unaccounted cash. This is a common phenomenon, especially during the wedding season.
Though this is a tax violation, the blackmailing by journalists in connivance with senior Income Tax officials is unpardonable. This is a heinous crime,” says the piece.
