Why does the government need 5311 acres in Bhogapuram for an airport? And shockingly, there were many amendments made to the notification of land acquisition issued by the AP government.
The notifications apparently exempted huge tracts of lands belonging to Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Ayyanna Patrudu and several real-estate firms of Vijayawada.
The state has even flouted the mandatory process to be followed under the new land acquisition Act of 2013.
The state's notification for this purpose has to be published in either the state or central gazette, where as in the current case they published it in the district gazette.
Moreover, an appropriate government has to give this notification and not the district collector as was done in this case.
The state has not furnished to the farmers even the required documents which it was mandated to convey and efforts to secure the same through courts too have been defeated.
Listening to all, the High Court has issued a stay on the acquisition of land by the government. This has instilled fresh hope in the farmers.
The judiciary is their last resort failing which, there is none left for them.
