Former Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay, who has been recently appointed as the BJP national general secretary, is virtually clueless as to what he is supposed to do in his new capacity.
Though the party people say it is a sort of elevation for Sanjay to get recognition at the national level, he has not been given any responsibility as of now and he is said to be wondering whether he would have any role to play in Telangana as such.
Some sources in the party said Sanjay is the only person from the Southern states to be given the national general secretary post and hence, the party might utilize his services for the entire south or even Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, where elections are due in a few months.
The latest rumour doing rounds in the political circles is that Sanjay might be appointed as party in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs soon, in place of Sunil Deodhar who has been removed from the national executive committee.
“Sanjay is a well-known person in Andhra Pradesh as well and the party leaders in that state are also waiting for a rabble-rousing leader like him. The party national leadership appears to be of the view that he would definitely bring some energy in the otherwise dull BJP in AP,” sources said.
However, one wonders what Sanjay would do in Andhra Pradesh. Having put up a strong street fight against the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in Telangana, there is hardly anything to do for him in Andhra, where the national leadership is strongly backing the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.
“It appears an attempt is on to shunt Sanjay out of Telangana and send him to the state where he doesn’t have much work to do,” sources added.
