Even as the attacker who made an attempt on the life of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at the Visakhapatnam airport on Thursday afternoon is still being questioned, Andhra Pradesh police Director General of Police R P Thakur seems to have jumped the gun to give clean chit to the Telugu Desam Party in the case.
According to Thakur, during the initial interrogation, Srinivas, the accused, had claimed that he was fan of Jaganmohan Reddy.
“The CISF authorities, who apprehended him soon after the attack, recovered a 10-page letter from his pocket. We are going through the veracity of the letter, which would reveal his actual credentials,” the DGP said.
The police boss said while taking a selfie with Jagan, the accused took out the knife from his pocket with his right hand and stabbed on Jagan’s left arm. This version is suspicious as the photograph clearly shows Srinivas on the right side of Jagan.
“We shall examine the reasons for his attack on Jagan. But prima facie, it appears Srinivas has attacked Jagan for the sake of publicity,” the DGP said.
The YSRC leaders described the DGP’s version as ridiculous.
“By saying that Srinivas belongs to YSRC and the attack is for publicity sake, it is very clear that the DGP is trying to protect the TDP. How can the DGP state the accused is a YSRC supporter without checking facts and what is the hurry of the DGP himself to come with a ludicrous statement?” they asked.
