The attack on the life of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at the Visakhapatnam airport was nothing but a major security lapse.
First of all, it is impossible to take any sharp metal objective into the airport, as there are powerful metal detectors at the entrance itself. The security staff will not allow even a kitchen knife in the airport canteens.
Secondly, the attack happened in the longue, which is located after the security check. Even a mobile phone or a pen is screened in this area.
So, definitely, there is a big conspiracy behind the attack as waiter Srinivas could easily carry a sharp knife, used for tying to the legs of roosters in the cockfights, in his pocket and was moving in the high security area. The YSRC leaders suspect that the TDP could be behind this conspiracy.
Soon after the incident took place, Governor E S L Narasimhan who got the alert, immediately spoke to Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police R P Thakur and asked for a report immediately.
YSR Congress party leaders Malladi Vishnu, Jogi Ramesh, Vellampalli Srinivas and Yarlagadda Venkat Rao also went in a delegation to the DGP office, seeking immediate action into the attack.
Though Telugu Desam Party government condemned the incident, it tried to wash off its hands saying the airport security was not in the hands of the state police but the central industrial security force.
“It needs to be probed how the attacker took the sharp weapon into the airport longue,” minister Jawahar said.
