Andhra Dried Up During Naidu Regime

Andhra Dried Up During Naidu Regime

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday accused chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu of ignoring the acute drought conditions causing untold miseries to farmers in the state.

Speaking to media after touring the drought-hit mandals of Krishna district in Gannavaram constituency,  Jagan said the state had completely dried up during Naidu’s regime. Farmers were facing severe hardships due to his anti-farmer policies, Jagan said.

Major extent of farm lands have dried up and it is a pity that the irrigation minister hails from this district. Farmers of Bommuluru have not been receiving water and their lands have turned barren. While 18,000 acres are to be irrigated in this area water is available only to 1,000 acres which shows the apathy of the state government, he said.

As Naidu had not released funds, the storage capacity of Pulichintala was not utilized to the full capacity and irrigation has taken a back seat and the water brought through Pattiseema has been going down the drain from Prakasam barrage, he said.

In the capital area region, the multi-crop lands have dried up due to the apathy of the government. Not just in uplands but even in delta regions cracks have developed due to lack of water. Naidu always takes a flight from this area but has never bothered to look in to problems of farmers. There is no crop insurance and no official assessment but due to lack of water and virus has eaten the crop, he said.
