What happened recently in Telangana is rather shameful. Of course, one cannot deny the cheap antics of a certain channel, but there is no denying the fact that blocking such channels is no solution to the problem.
In fact, it directly curtails freedom of press and is a rather scary development as far as working of media is concerned.
Surely, there is a section of people which strongly supports KCR’s move and feels blocking of the channels was a right move. Even as efforts are on to resolve the issue, another section of media has come up with their solution for the issue.
They say that in retaliation to TV9 and Andhra Jyothi being blocked, some Telangana channels should be immediately blocked in Andhra Pradesh. There is a strong rumour that there is increasing pressure on the Andhra Pradesh government to follow in the footsteps of Telangana government and stop airing of certain channels in the region.
It is not new for politicians to show their might by curtailing the rights of media. But what is rather disturbing and shameful is the fact that some media houses are taking advantage of the situation and instigating the Andhra Pradesh government to take similar measures.
Meanwhile, what can be said of media organizations which have stooped down to spreading such news stories despite being mired in controversies?
