There is a growing opposition within the state BJP unit to the proposal to revive electoral alliance with the Telugu Desam Party.
This is because of their past experience with the TDP boss N Chandrababu Naidu who always used to ignore them while opening a direct channel with the BJP central leadership.
Naidu, who is now desperate to stage a comeback, is adopting similar strategy now. He is in direct touch with the top brass of the saffron party through his old, trusted friend M Venkaiah Naidu while completely ignoring the opinion of the state unit.
The BJP legislator Yendala Lakshminarayana, said that his party would be completely damaged if it allied with the TDP.
He met the party president Rajnath Singh on Thursday morning and told him that TDP was on an extremely weak wicket in the Telangana region and no purpose would be served in having a tie-up with the discredited regional party.
Lakshminarayana said that leaders wanting an alliance with BJP were motivated by selfish reasons.
He also gave a memorandum to Rajnath Singh, outlining the reasons against an alliance with the TDP.
He made it very clear to the party president that the state unit was not interested in an understanding with the TDP.
