Alla Nani to join TDP amidst protests

Stage is set for the entry of former deputy chief minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas alias Alla Nani into the Telugu Desam Party, even as discontent is brewing in the TDP’s Eluru district unit over the development.

Alla Nani, who resigned from the YSR Congress party soon after the assembly elections, is leaving for Amaravati on Wednesday to join the TDP in the presence of party president N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence at Undavalli.

His entry into the TDP would have happened long ago, but for the protests from the local TDP leaders.

TDP legislator from Eluru Badeti Chanti, who defeated Alla Nani in the last assembly elections, said nobody in the party is happy with the joining of the former deputy CM into the TDP.

"We will bring this matter to the notice of the party high command," said Chanti told the reporters.

He said Naidu had promised to address a meeting of the party workers to sort out the issue, but it had not happened.

He, however, said despite workers' reluctance, they accepted the decision of Naidu to admit Alla Nani into the party, as they did not want to go against the party leadership's directive.

Naidu reportedly told Badeti Chanti that the decision was taken in the best interest of the party and emphasized that everyone must work together.

“We abide by the party’s decision," the MLA said.

He, however, pointed out that no matter how many such defections the TDP had encouraged in the past, the party could not achieve victory in 2019.

“How will we succeed if we fail to learn from past experiences?" he asked.
