The Crime Investigation Department of Andhra Pradesh police appears to be getting ready to arrest Ch Sailaja Kiran, managing director of Margadarsi Chit Funds Private Ltd and daughter-in-law of media baron and Eenadu group chairman Ch Ramoji Rao.
The CID authorities, who had attached movable assets of Margadarsi worth Rs 793 crore a couple of days ago, also issued lookout notices on Sailaja Kiran, stating that she was absconding and dodging questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities in Margadarsi.
Sailaja is at present in the US to attend the graduation ceremony of her children. She submitted a petition in the high court stating that she was not absconding but had gone to the US right royally.
According to the CID, Sailaja was served notices for questioning on June 3. But she sought time till June 6 and left for the US without informing the CID.
“That could be the reason for the CID deciding to arrest her,” sources said.
She told the court that she was coming back to India soon and even booked the return tickets.
“As per the CID notices, the authorities are supposed to come to my residence for questioning at 10 am on June 6. I am getting ready for the same,” she said.
Stating that the issuance of lookout notice has no meaning, when she was returning to India on June 3. She asked the court to direct the CID to withdraw notices and see that they would not create any troubles at the airport when she lands in Hyderabad.
Apparently, Sailaja is apprehensive that she might be arrested by the CID authorities soon after she lands in the airport. It is a different matter that she might get the bail later, but the arrest of Ramoji Rao’s daughter in law itself is a big sensation!
