Has YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy thought of quitting politics, after seeing the outcome of the recent assembly elections in the state, in which his party suffered a humiliating defeat?
According to reports in a section of media, Jagan has reportedly made this comment before his party colleagues after the election results.
He reportedly told them that he was shocked so much on seeing his party getting just 11 out of 175 MLAs that he wanted to give up politics and go to Himalayas to get some peace of mind.
The YSRCP president, who is presently in Bengaluru, told his party colleagues that he was very much disturbed with the outcome of the assembly elections.
Though winning and losing elections is part of the game in politics, he reportedly said he had not expected that the YSRCP would get just 11 seats, after doing so much good for the people.
“It took two or three days for me to recover from the shock. I really thought of quitting politics. But after analysing the results, I felt something might have gone wrong, as the YSRCP got nearly 40 percent of votes,” Jagan is learnt to have said.
He felt that there was every chance for the party to bounce back by next elections, if he could face the situation boldly and go back into the people who had rejected him.
“That 40 percent of people are still with us gave me a lot of confidence. We have to work for those who had voted for us. That’s why, I came out of the depressive state of mind,” he reportedly told the party leaders.
After taking a break at Bengaluru, Jagan is expected to be back in Tadepalli to gear up the party cadre.
He is planning a series of meetings with the party’s affiliated organisations and come out a lot of programmes to be in the limelight, sources said.
