Recently, the Telangana police ‘lathicharged’ protesting workers of the ‘Sirpur Paper Mills’ located at Kagaznagar in Adilabad district.
The workers were asking for the factory that had been shut down three months ago to be reopened. In effect, it probably sums up the kind of year it has been for the people of Telangana.
Farmers, students and factory workers did their bit for a separate Telangana in the hope that their lives would improve.
‘Self-respect’ through freedom from Andhra rule was what drew them into the agitation.
Interestingly, they are now at the receiving end from the very government they had chosen to install.
Osmania University continues to be a hotbed of unrest with students up in arms against KCR. The latter is further contributing to the misery of the students by refusing to come to a compromise with Andhra over various issues such as ‘fee reimbursement’, conducting of ‘Eamcet’ etc.
Farmers were promised uninterrupted power supply within two months of the new State being formed. Sadly, their hopes were dashed and the number of farmers committing suicides in Telangana averages around three a day.
KCR conveniently points the finger at Andhra. And as for workers, the recent incident at Sirpur tells it all.
Ironically, KCR had lambasted Naidu for closing down the ‘Nizam Sugar Factory’. These people are caught in a quandary. Their position has worsened after the bifurcation and this time they cannot even point a finger at the government!
For this is their very own government that they had elected! Some kind of self-respect this! In fact, each and every thing that Kiran Kumar Reddy predicted is coming true.
