Remembering the legendary leader, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, late Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy on his 72nd birth anniversary, Dr YSR fans and staunch YSR Congress party loyalists celebrated on a grand scale at Minnesota, USA.
The Minnesota chapter of Dr. YSR foundation organized the YSR Jayanthi event on July 11th at Hyland Lake Park, Bloomington. YSR admirers participated enthusiastically and remembered the great leader Dr YSR for his impeccable work towards state development and revolutionary social welfare schemes implemented during his tenure aimed towards reduction of rural poverty and improving standards of underprivileged and marginalized sections of society.
Attendees paid rich tributes to Dr. YSR and recalled their association with Dr YSR and the services done by him to the people of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Several people recalled how their acquinties have been benefited of various schemes like fees reimbursement, Arogya Sri one of the brainchild of late YSR.
Venkatramireddy Chintam welcomed the attendees and hailed the services of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy as the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh and called out his incredible services for the development of outreached and downtrodden people for their social uplifting and wellbeing during his regime. He emphasized how YSR who grew from the backward and often drought prone region of Rayalaseema, steered his party through spectacular victories twice consecutively in the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections to emerge its undisputed leader in Andhra Pradesh.
Speakers from YSR era recalled their association with YSR and events during 1980-1983 period, when he was a minister holding important portfolios related to Rural Development, Medical Health and Education in state government, YSR's impeccable record as undefeated leader in both state and parliament elections and the same manifested and transformed Dr YSR as a legendary politician and mass leader reaching out to all to all the outreached people by undertaking 1,450-km padayatra in 2003 which eventually coted him as a Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and also made successful in bringing Congress into Power in both State and Central.
Sainath Yerri spoke at length about various welfare projects implemented by YSR. Free electricity for farmers, construction of irrigation projects, Rajiv Arogyasri to make healthcare in corporate hospitals accessible to poor, building houses for the poor, monthly pension for old age people and handicapped people, scholarships and fees reimbursement for students belonging to weaker sections and also 4% reservations to minority classes were some of the schemes which touched the lives of people.
Doctor Vaka Srinivas Reddy remembered YSR as a politician who understood the pulse of people and how YSR's experience as doctor was instrumental in implementation of Arogya Sri and 108 schemes.
