As elections to the municipal chairpersons is due on March 18, the ruling YSR Congress, which is falling short of simple majority in the 36-member municipal council, is having tough time to get majority.
Initially, when the results were out with the opposition TDP winning majority seats of 18 wards and has the support of one independent and one CPI nominee, the YSR Congress wanted to wrest the council undoing the majority by sending ex-officio members.
The ruling party has one MLA, one MP and three MLCs who could be the ex-officio members, which would help the party win the chairman post.
The TDP too has one MLC to be added to its strength to stake claim for the chairman and deputy chairman post.
However, the returning officer and the municipal commissioner rejected the applications of the MLCs to be the ex-officio members and accepted the applications of MLA and MP.
The denial of ex-officio membership for the MLCs would leave no scope for the YSR Congress to win this municipality.
At one point of time, it is said that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted to leave Tadipatri but the party leaders insisted on having it too in its kitty.
After this, the YSR Congress MLCs whose applications for the ex-officio membership, will challenge the returning officers’ decision in the high court and get clearance.
The chief minister had already permitted the MLCs to file a case in the court and get orders to vote in the Tadipatri council and capture the chairman post.
It is to be see how fast the YSR Congress MLCs would make their moves to undo what the TDP, particularly the JC family is doing in Tadipatri.
