The YSR Congress Party on Monday suspended a senior and important party leader from the Chandragiri assembly constituency in Tirupati district after discovering that he had sabotaged the party's prospects in the recent assembly elections.
The leader, M R C Reddy, has been loyal to the party from the beginning. He was an ardent follower of former chief minister, the late Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy, and later of YSRCP president and chief minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
According to a party statement, there had been several complaints against M. R. C. Reddy for anti-party activities.
“After a thorough inquiry into these complaints, it was found that he had indeed violated party discipline,” the statement said.
Based on the recommendations of the party’s disciplinary committee, Jagan ordered the suspension of M R C Reddy from the party on disciplinary grounds, the statement added.
M R C Reddy, who had been the state election observer for the YSRCP, was also a close follower of state mining and power minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy.
He had been very active on social media until the day of polling, but suddenly became silent afterward, ceasing to post messages or comments. He also became inaccessible to the party leadership.
Notably, M R C Reddy was conspicuously absent during the large-scale violence in Chandragiri the day after polling. The party apparently believed that he had joined ranks with rivals during this episode.
YSRCP had fielded Chevireddy Mohit Reddy in the Chandragiri constituency against Pulivarthi Nani of the Telugu Desam Party. The fight was very intense in the elections.
However, it is not immediately clear how M R C Reddy sabotaged the chances of Mohit Reddy in the elections.
