At a time when there is a heated debate in the political circles over the statement made by YSR Congress party general secretary and advisor to Jagan Mohan Reddy government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy calling for merger of two Telugu states, Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu sees a conspiracy behind the merger talk.
Without going into the merits or demerits of the merger of the Telugu states, Naidu on Saturday said Sajjala’s talk was only misleading the people and diverting their attention from crucial issues confronting the state.
“Merger or demerger of the states is not in our hands. So, there is no point in talking about the same. The YSRC is unnecessarily kicking up a debate on the issue on which it has no role only to divert the people’s attention from the increasing number of suicides by farmers,” the TDP chief said.
He said instead of paying attention to the problems being faced by the people, who are in a state of despair, the YSRC leaders are making irresponsible statements on the combined state issue, demanding merger of the two Telugu states.
Naidu said the Jagan government was not raising is voice on securing funds from the Centre as per the AP Reorganisation Act. Instead of focussing on them, it is ridiculous that the YSRC was once again trying to kick up a controversy by making controversial statements on merger of the Telugu states.
“In fact, the state suffered heavy losses not because of the bifurcation, but because of the bad rule of Jagan Mohan Reddy. Instead of taking corrective measures, his party leaders are trying to blame it on the bifurcation,” he criticised.
