YSRC gains majority in legislative council!

At last, the ruling YSR Congress party in Andhra Pradesh has gained majority in the state legislative council, with eight of the sitting legislative council members completing their tenure on Friday.

Out of these eight members, seven belong to the TDP.

They are: Reddy Subrahmanyam, Y V B Rajendra Prasad, Buddha Venkanna, Pappla Chalapathi Rao, Gali Saraswati, B N Jagadeeshwar Rao and Dwarapudi Jagadeeshwar Rao.

The eighth member – Ummareddy Venkateshwarlu is from the YSRC.

With the completion of the term of seven members, the strength of the TDP in the 58-membe council has come down from 22 to 15, whereas the strength of the YSRC will come to 21.

The YSRC has recently added four more MLCs to the list – Moshen Raju, Lella Appi Reddy, Thota Trimurthulu and R V Ramesh Yadav under the Governor’s quota.

At present, there are 11 vacancies under the local bodies’ quota and three under the MLAs’ quota.

The elections have been withheld by the Election Commission of India in view of the Coronavirus pandemic.

If the elections are held for these vacant seats at least in July, the YSRC can bag all the 14 seats, thereby increasing its tally to 35, thereby gaining absolute majority.

Out of 58 members in the council, eight members are nominated by the Governor, while 40 members are elected under the MLAs’ and local bodies quotas.

The 10 remaining members would be elected from constituencies of college graduates and teachers.
