YSRC debacle: Poll pundits blaming it on EVMs

Victory and defeat are part of the game in any election or any match. A loser has to accept the defeat with humility, make an attempt to rediscover himself and find ways to regain his glory.

That is what YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said in his post-election results reaction.

“We shall be on the side of the people and bounce back with the same courage,” he said.

Though Jagan suspected that frauds and injustices were committed, he said he had no evidence to prove it.

“God knows what truly happened. There is nothing more I can do. Nonetheless, we remain committed to doing good. YSR Congress Party will always be the voice of the voiceless,” he said.

But his party leaders are finding excuses for the party’s humiliating defeat. Senior YSRC leaders in Jagan’s close circle, who had engaged Aaraa group headed by Mastan Rao to do the exit polls by paying him hefty remuneration, have reportedly called him and sought an explanation from him.

Mastan Rao, who predicted that the YSRC would win a comfortable majority, reportedly told them that his predictions were accurate, but there must have been tampering of EVMs on a large scale during the three-week period between the polling day and the counting day.

The YSRC leaders, too, appeared to be convinced with this argument and informed the same to Jagan. But there is nothing that the party could do now.

“But the party leaders are certainly planning to make it an issue in the coming days,” sources said.

One doesn’t know how much truth is there in this talk or not, but it would be better if the YSRC leadership ignores this EVM tampering allegation and works out new strategies to win back the confidence of the people in the coming days. There is nothing more it can do now!
