YSR Congress party, which has been aiming to wipe out the Telugu Desam Party from the political arena of Andhra Pradesh, has succeeded in conquering the bastion of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu.
The YSRC-backed candidates had won 74 out of 89 grama panchayats that went to polls in Kuppam assembly constituency represented by Naidu.
The TDP supporters managed to win only 14 grama panchayats. Interestingly, a Congress supporter won the sarpanch post in one panchayat.
In none of the mandals in Kuppam constituency, the TDP could cross the single digit mark in the grama panchayat elections.
Even in the areas like Kuppam, Ramakuppam, Gudupalle and Shantipuram, which are considered to be TDP strongholds, the TDP conceded defeat to the YSR Congress.
The stupendous victory of the YSRC in the grama panchayats in Kuppam is considered to be an indication to the impending defeat of Naidu in the next assembly elections, which has been the prime target of the YSRC.
If the ruling party can defeat Naidu in his own bastion, it will as well be the end of the political life for the TDP chief.
“The victory of YSRC in Kuppam constituency is not a defeat of the TDP but a reflection of the people’s increasing faith in the governance of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. It shows the people have lost their faith in Chandrababu Naidu,” said advisor to the government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy.
The YSRC has claimed to have won nearly 90 per cent of the grama panchayats elections for which held till now. In every assembly constituency, the ruling party has established clear leads, whether they are unanimous or elected by the people.
In Macherla constituency in Guntur district, for instance, the YSRC has won all the 77 grama panchayats. In fact, 74 of them were elected unanimously and elections were held only for three panchayats. All the three were bagged by the YSRC!
