In an obvious attempt to give a push to the three-capitals agenda of the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government, the YSR Congress party on Wednesday celebrated the 85th anniversary of the Sribagh Pact in a big way across the state.
Various programmes were held throughout the day, mainly across 10 districts of the state, to propagate the necessity and essence of decentralisation.
Along with JAC members established for 3-capitals, YSRCP MLAs, MPs in Kurnool, Kadapa, Annamayya, Nandyala, Anantapur, Tirupati, Sri Sathya Sai, Chittoor, Prakasam and Nellore districts actively gathered at the district and mandal headquarters of their respective constituencies and appraised the public about the need to setup three capitals in the state.
Speaking at Banaganapalli in Nandyal district, MLA Katasani Rami Reddy highlighted why the government is keen to establish a capital in Rayalaseema.
"The Sribagh Pact was signed in 1937 to highlight how Rayalaseema region should be part of development and why Kurnool should be named as one of the capitals,” he said.
The MLA said it was not just a mere formality about establishing a judicial capital in Kurnool. What matters is the added benefits once the process is complete. The capital will ensure development and that would bring in jobs. That is why CM Jagan wants a capital to be established here.
Echoing similar sentiments, Allagadda MLA Gangula Bijendra Reddy said, "The TDP government has done injustice by supporting a few realtors in Amaravati region and has ignoring Rayalaseema for decades. Decentralisation is a necessity for the state and everyone needs to support the decision."
In a similar event at Ongole, Lok Sabha MP Magunta Sreenivasulu Reddy, stated, "The Jagan Mohan Reddy government is keen on establishing three capitals to ensure uniform development across all regions in the state. With the support of people, this dream will come true."
In a show of strength and to take an oath to remain united to achieve the dream of establishing three-capitals, a human chain was formed in all districts by the MLAs who were joined by students, lawyers, journalists, ZPTCs, MPPs, sarpanches, teachers and farmers. This apart, rallies and road shows were taken up in all the 10 districts.
Stressing on the need for establishment of three capitals, a lawyer said, "Kurnool was the capital once in united Andhra Pradesh and it was forcefully shifted to Hyderabad. We got another chance to establish a capital here but then Amaravati was named as one of the capitals. We don't want to leave this opportunity. If Kurnool becomes a capital, our children will be the beneficiaries."
