When YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday evening attended the engagement ceremony of his nephew (his sister Sharmia’s son) Y S Raja Reddy with Atluri Priya at Golkonda Resorts on the outskirts of Hyderabad, it naturally evoked a lot of curiosity.
People are curious because all has not been well between Jagan and his sister for quite some time. And Sharmila, who is all set to take over as the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president in another two days, is going to declare a war against her brother in the coming elections.
Yet, they cannot ignore the family relations. Jagan, along with his wife YS Bharathi Reddy, flew down to Hyderabad from Tadepalli, exclusively to attend the engagement function. Along with the couple, senior YSRCP leaders Y V Subba Reddy and Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy were also seen at the event.
He had to attend the ceremony, because if he skips the event, it will lead to more speculations about the strained relations between him and Sharmila. Perhaps that is the reason why Sharmila, too, went to Jagan’s residence at Tadepalli to invite him to the function.
However, those who watched the event on television and social media have expressed view that Jagan was not at ease at the engagement function. He was putting up an embarrassing face, rather than a happy face, while Bharati appeared to be very jubilant.
Jagan gave a warm hug to his sister, but he did not see into her eyes while doing so. It was an uneasy hug. His mother Vijayamma, however, was very happy to see her son and both of them had a hearty embrace. There were no visuals of Jagan wishing his brother-in-law Anil Kumar.
Jagan and Bharati congratulated the couple Raja Reddy and Atluri Priya and blessed them, posed for the photograph and left the place within a few minutes.
In fact, he was more like any other guest at the function rather than a family member. Had the terms between him and Sharmila been normal, perhaps, Jagan would have taken the initiative of performing the wedding in a big way!
