Retired judge of Madras High Court justice V Kanakagaraj, whose appointment as Andhra Pradesh state election commissioner (SEC) by the Jagan Mohan Reddy government last year was struck down by the Supreme Court, is facing yet another legal hassle.
Recently, the Jagan government appointed Justice Kanagaraj as the chairman of Andhra Pradesh state police complaints authority, as per the promise given to him while he was relinquishing the SEC post in favour of Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, following the Supreme Court judgement.
Now, an advocate from Amaravati P Kishore challenged Justice Kanagaraj’s latest appointment in the state high court on technical grounds.
He filed a petition to this effect on Tuesday. The case is expected to come up for hearing on Thursday.
Kishore argued that the appointment of Kanagaraj as the state police complaints authority chairman was against the Supreme Court judgement.
He was given the new post after the high court struck down his appointment as state election commissioner.
Describing Kanagaraj’s appointment as illegal, arbitrary and mala fide exercise of power by the state government, the petitioner appealed to the court to issue an appropriate order cancelling his appointment.
