It appears to be more or less certain that YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila is all set join the Congress party to play a crucial role in the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
For the last two days, there have been reports that Sharmila will be winding up her YSRTP and shifting her base to Andhra to take charge as the APCC president, which neither she nor the party has denied so far.
As if confirming the rumours, newly-appointed AICC in-charge of AP Congress affairs Manickam Tagore tweeted on Wednesday that good days are ahead for the party in Andhra Pradesh.
According to reports, Sharmila’s husband Anil Kumar has already been in Delhi to hold negotiations with the Congress top leaders and she, too, will be joining the talks with the party high command on Thursday.
The AICC top leaders including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and others have called for a meeting with Andhra leaders including Gidugu Rudra Raju and Sunkara Padmasri on Tuesday evening, where a decision would be taken on Sharmila.
Present APCC president Rudra Raju has already made it clear that he would welcome Sharmila into the party and would abide by whatever the party high command would take on the responsibilities to be given to her.
“In any case, her entry would definitely a plus point to the party,” he said.
Party leaders believe that many of the erstwhile Congress leaders, who had shifted their loyalties to YSRCP after the death of YSR, might come back to the Congress, if Sharmila takes the reins of the party. They are of view that she would activate the party cadre by virtue of being YSR’s daughter.
Watch out for more developments on this front.
