Will quit Speaker post for public, says Ayyanna

Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu is known for his aggressive demeanor, and he doesn’t mince words when expressing his discontent on any issue he dislikes.

In the past, Ayyanna made sensational remarks against his political rivals, particularly YSR Congress Party President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, often using sharp and abrasive language.

His language was so harsh that Jagan stayed away from Ayyanna’s election as the state legislative speaker.

In fact, after becoming the Speaker, Ayyanna was forced to tone down his language and the tenor of his speech. This moderation was an irritant for him, and in a way, the Speaker’s position became a hurdle for him to be his natural self.

On Friday, during a visit to his native Narasipatnam Assembly constituency, Ayyanna couldn’t contain his anger and expressed his frustration at the authorities.

His anger was sparked by the decision of APSRTC authorities to allocate a portion of the corporation’s land to private parties for the construction of a mall and multiplex.

He stated that he had to work hard to convince farmers to give up their lands to the government for the establishment of the APSRTC bus depot.

“How can the RTC authorities sell this land to private parties at a high rate for commercial purposes?” he questioned.

Ayyanna declared that he wouldn’t hesitate to resign from his Speaker post to protect RTC lands by waging a legal battle.

He also questioned the police about their actions while private individuals were digging up RTC land in Narsipatnam.

He demanded the immediate suspension of the RTC security staff for failing to protect the government land from encroachment.

“I will take up the matter with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. If necessary, I will quit my Speaker post and raise the issue in the State Assembly as a local MLA,” he said.
