Soon after the Election Commission of India transferred senior IAS officer Anil Chandra Puneta from Andhra Pradesh chief secretary post and brought in LV Subrahmanyam in his place, there were speculations in a section of media that the EC had made the change only to favour YSR Congress party and create troubles for ruling Telugu Desam Party.
The way TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu made an aggressive attack on the Centre and the Election Commission protesting the transfer of chief secretary gave the impression that Punetha was Naidu’s man and Subrahmanyam would favour the YSRC.
It is generally believed that Subrahmanyam was closer to Y S Rajasekhar Reddy and held key positions during his regime.
He was APIIC’s vice-chairman and managing director and was accused in the Emaar properties scam in allegedly fixing a lower rate for the 535 acres property given to Emaar group by YSR government. He was acquitted by the court later for lack of evidence.
During the Naidu regime, Subrahmanyam did not get key positions and though he is senior to Punetha, he was not made the chief secretary.
Now that he has got the position, it is believed that he might take revenge on Naidu and help YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
But there is another section which believes that Subrahmanyam might not favour Jagan coming to power, because he had to suffer a lot because of YSR family, especially Jagan.
“He is apprehensive that if Jagan comes to power, he may have to allow all sorts of illegal deals once again, which would not give him a peace of mind. So, he may not help YSRC as everybody is guessing,” another analyst said.
Before taking charge, Subrahamanyam along with his wife visited Kanakadurgamma temple in Vijayawada where he was accorded grand welcome by temple executive officer Koteswaramma.
After darshan of the goddess, he said that he had prayed for the welfare of the state and thanked the presiding deity for giving the opportunity to serve as CS.
