State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar had written a letter to DGP Gautham Sawang on Saturday asking him to restrict the movements of Minister for Panchayat Raj and Rural Development, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy to his residence.
The SEC had ordered this otherwise ‘confinement’ or ‘house arrest’ following the Minister’s remarks against the SEC and his warning to the officials who refuse to give election declarations to the winners, despite the objection by Nimmagadda.
The SEC had reviewed the statement of the minister and found the minister violated the code of conduct and breached the constitutional rights of the people to vote and instigate fear among the officials.
The SEC directed the DGP to confine the minister to his residence till February 21, the last date of the election process.
He also said that the minister would not be given access even to the media during this period.
While the Minister himself had reacted sharply to these orders and dared the SEC to restrict his movements, all eyes are now on the DGP, who is to implement the orders.
The DGP had told the media in the noon that the SEC orders are yet to be received and he would react only after receiving them.
Even after receiving the orders, it is a big question whether the DGP would implement the orders and confine the movements of the minister or leave it to the SEC and the Government to resolve it.
