Why was Sakshi silent on Justice Chandru's castigating talk?

Madras High Court retired judge, Justice K Chandru, made castigating remarks against some judges in Andhra Pradesh high court.

He also mentioned some prominent cases and went on to say that an elected government (in AP) was fighting a battle for its existence and the battle was not against the political rivals or the peoples’ movement but judiciary.

He also cited the case related to alleged land scam in Amaravati and referred to the state government’s appeal against two judges who were hearing the case.

He said that the state government had alleged that the two judges have received house site from the previous government in Amaravati and they be discharged from hearing the case.

This appeal too was rejected by the court, Justice Chandru said and regretted that such decisions of the judges would raise doubts among the people on the impartiality of the judiciary.

It is a fact that a section of the media which is opposed to Jagan Mohan Reddy government which had been highlighting every issue from the high court against the government had remained silent on Justice Chandru’s castigating talk. But one wonders why Sakshi too was silent and soft in reporting what Justice Chandru had said in public.

Sakshi, owned by the family of Jagan Mohan Reddy, had cautiously drafted the news report on the speech of Justice Chandru, while the other media houses ignored it, despite the social media flashing every word of Justice Chandru’s speech.

It is understandable if media houses like Eenadu and Andhra Jyothi ignore Justice Chandru’s speech verbatim as it was against their political interests. But the shocking and surprise is that Sakshi too ignored.

Justice Chandru’s remarks against judiciary, with reference to some cases held by AP high court, have the potential to raise debate in the country on the relations between the judiciary and legislature.

Referring to AP government withdrawing three capitals bills, Justice Chandru said that the government believes that it will not get justice until some judges are in office.

“This is not a healthy situation where legislature has no faith in judiciary,” he commented which were also ignored by Sakshi as well as the rest of the media.
