The way YSR Congress party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy moved the high court seeking chief minister-level security for him has become a topic of intense discussion within the political circles.
Jagan has asked for restoration of security with 139 personnel all through the day. Besides, he also wants security to his family members.
It is a practice that the security provision for a VIP will be decided by a separate committee that examines the threat perception to him based on intelligence inputs.
It varies from person to person and the security would be more for a leader in power and for the one out of power, it will be relatively less as he would be no more be a target for extremists or terrorists.
Secondly, the threat perception would be reviewed from time to time and the number of security personnel to be provided will depend on the situation prevailing then. So, a leader cannot demand he would require certain number of personnel for his security, as it will be decided by the committee.
Now that Jagan is out of power, he will naturally have lesser security cover, compared to what he was entitled to as the chief minister. So, it was definitely a surprising aspect why he is asking for the CM-level security.
Sources said Jagan wants to establish that there is no law and order in the state and the YSRCP leaders are being selectively targeted by the TDP people. So, he wants to indicate that he might be a selective target by the TDP leaders, who might not hesitate to eliminate him.
What is surprising is that he had quoted the six-year-old case of Kodi Kathi attack on him as the reason for increased security for him, as there are no fresh attempts of any attack on Jagan for now.
But the TDP leaders are suspecting that Jagan might enact yet another attack drama in the near future to create a commotion in the state and disturb the peace in the state.
“In order to prepare the ground for his plan, he is asking for high security,” a TDP leader said.
