It has been nearly two weeks since retired IPS officer and former Andhra Pradesh intelligence chief A B Venkateshwara Rao was appointed as the chairman of AP State Police Housing Corporation.
It was believed to be a recognition of his loyalty to the Telugu Desam Party and also, of course, the Kamma factor.
However, ABV has not yet assumed charge of his new position, leading to the speculation that he is not keen joining the post, the reasons for which have not been disclosed yet.
Venkateswara Rao served as the Intelligence Chief under Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure between 2014 and 2019.
However, after Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power, ABV was kept away from active service until his retirement. He was suspended and booked in various cases.
The former intelligence chief had to fight tough legal battles to overcome his suspension and he was reinstated on his retirement day, only to retire immediately after.
After Naidu returned to power, his government lifted all cases against him, dropped charges and restored all his perks and benefits.
Recently, Naidu appointed Venkateshwara Rao as the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Police Housing Corporation, but he has not yet joined.
Sources said he was either not keen on accepting a government post or interested in a better post. He is not interested in accepting a post, which is again related to the police department.
It is learnt Venkateshwara Rao was interested in the AP State Road Transport Corporation chairman post, but it was given to Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, who retired from service on January 31.
There is also a talk that Venkateshwara Rao is interested in coming into active politics and is expecting Rajya Sabha ticket from the TDP. That could be the reason why he is not keen on accepting the corporation chairman post, sources said.
