Ever since the YSR Congress party came to power in Andhra Pradesh with a landslide majority a month ago, there have been large scale complaints from the Telugu Desam Party leaders that their party workers were being physically assaulted by the YSRC workers.
There were a few instances of TDP workers being killed in violent incidents, and the party immediately sought to attribute it to political violence by the YSRC workers.
In a bid to counter this campaign, the YSRC leaders themselves have started allegations that the TDP leaders were fabricating stories only to malign the YSRC and gain sympathy from the people in the ensuing local body elections.
On Monday, YSRC MLA from Mangalagiri Alla Ramakrishna Reddy met Director General of Police Goutam Sawang and complained that the TDP leaders themselves were indulging in attacks on YSRCP activists.
These attacks are being carried out under the directions of TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu and his son Nara Lokesh.
Reddy also urged the DGP to take the actions over the social media posts on the state home minister and other YSRC leaders.
“Since the YSRC won the elections, the TDP leaders were not able to digest their defeat and hence were resorting to cheap gimmicks,” he said.
However, Naidu told the party workers at Guntur that he would protect every TDP activist. He said in case of need, he would stay locally and safeguard the interests of party activists.
He alleged that since YSRC came to power in the state, six TDP workers were killed and attacks were on the rise on the party activists.
Instead of concentrating on the administration, the Jagan government was encouraging attacks on the TDP activists, he said.
