Former Union minister and Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajya Sabha member Y S Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary made a desperate attempt to cover up the stalling of his US visit by immigration authorities at Delhi airport on November 12.
On Saturday, his office issued a statement saying that there was no truth in the reports that appeared in a section of media that he was stopped by the immigration authorities in Delhi airport from flying to the US.
“There is absolutely no truth in these reports. Sujana Chowdary took permission from the Telangana high court only as a precautionary measure to preempt any legal hurdles for his foreign visit in the wake of a wrong case filed against him,” a spokesman from his office said.
The spokesman also explained the background of the case: the CBI had filed a case in 2019 against Chennai-based Best and Crompton Engineering Projects Ltd for defaulting repayment of Rs 71.46 crore taken from banks.
He was served with notices under Section 160 and 161 of CrPC to appear before the authorities for questioning.
However, Sujana challenged the notices in the Telangana high court, as he was neither a shareholder nor a director in the company and hence, the CBI cannot question him in the case.
Ironically, in the same petition filed by the Telangana high court challenging the attempt of the Delhi airport authorities to prevent him from going to the US, Sujana clearly admitted that a lookout notice was issued against him.
He said he had to travel to New York urgently due to terminal illness of one of his uncles apart from some urgent family issues which were required to be settled. He claimed that he had always cooperated with the investigation.
Sujana also said he was aware of the issuance of lookout notice by the CBI in 2019 itself and since one year had passed, it cannot be enforced.
