What are you bringing for Amaravati this time, Mr Modi?

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Y S Sharmila on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of hoodwinking the people of the state with false promises on the capital city of Amaravati.

In a tweet posted on her social media handle X, Sharmila asked Modi what he was bringing to Amaravati this time.

“When you came to Amaravati to lay foundation stone for the capital city last time, you came with a tumbler of water and a handful of soil. You have thrown dust on the heads of people by coming in a chopper. This time, what are you throwing? A fist of lime?” she asked.

She regretted that Amaravati, projected to be the self-respect of the people of Andhra Pradesh had been reduced to mere foundation laying project for Modi.

“The BJP’s actions regarding the construction of the state capital are a grand betrayal. What they did to the state is nothing short of treason,” she said.

Sharmila alleged that after reducing the Polavaram project’s height and inflicting irreparable injustice, the BJP leaders are now boast about rescuing the capital by giving loans worth Rs 15,000 crore — which is shameful.

“If PM Modi truly had good intentions for Amaravati, why did he stay silent for nine years? Did he ever once responsibly inquire about the capital’s progress? Did he allocate even a single rupee? Did he question N Chandrababu Naidu about the 3D graphics gimmick?” she asked.

The Congress president also found fault with Modi for ignoring Amaravati project, when the previous YSRCP government played the 'three capitals' drama.

“Didn’t the BJP silently watch the show? If they thought it was wrong, why didn’t they stop their ‘adopted son’?” she asked.

She asked why Modi did not even acknowledge the protests of Amaravati farmers who came all the way to Delhi to highlight their demand.

“Did he forget his promise to build a capital better than Delhi? After dumping all the promises, what face do they have now to come back and lay the foundation again? PM Modi must answer,” she said.

Sharmila said even after 10 years, the state has no capital; and the primary culprit for this is A1: Narendra Modi, followed by A2: Chandrababu Naidu, and A3: Jagan Mohan Reddy.

On behalf of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, we demand that PM Modi, who is visiting on May 2 for the restart of Amaravati works, must declare full funding for Amaravati as it was a promise made during the bifurcation of the state.

“He must fulfil the 10-year special category status promise. Additionally, there must be clarity on long-pending bifurcation promises like the merger of Vizag Steel Plant with SAIL, development of Kadapa Steel Plant, special packages for backward regions, and establishment of industrial corridors,” she asserted.
