The political resolution adopted by the Telugu Desam Party headed by former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the concluding day of the two-day Mahanadu has virtually isolated the party.
By declaring that the TDP would extend issue-based support to the Narendra Modi government, Naidu has distanced himself from the anti-BJP parties like the CPI and the CPI-M, which have hitherto been showing some soft corner towards him in his fight against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government.’
What is surprising is that the TDP also resolved to adopt a strategy to make coordinated and cooperative efforts with like-minded opposition parties in the state to take forward the ongoing struggle against the Jagan Mohan Reddy regime.
The question is what are these like-minded parties. Within a day of the TDP adopting a political resolution, Communist Party of India state secretary K Ramakrishna lashed out at Naidu for extending support to the Modi government, which has miserably failed in the Covid-19 management.
“How can you extend support to the BJP which meted out gross injustice to Andhra Pradesh in all aspects? In fact, there are reports that the BJP leadership itself is planning to drop Narendra Modi from the Prime Minister post. How can you support him?” Ramakrishna asked.
He demanded what the issues Naidu was talking about for extending support to the Centre.
“Modi has not implemented any of the promises made in the bifurcation act. He betrayed the people on the special category status. He is trying to sell away the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant,” he reminded.
The CPI-M, too, won’t come forward to support the TDP, while the BJP will never believe Naidu, despite his friendly gestures to Modi. Since Pawan Kalyan is backing the BJP, he won’t come in support of Naidu. Even if he supports the TDP in the next elections, it hardly helps the TDP to win the elections.
So, which like-minded parties would sail with Naidu?
