Vundavalli bats for Jagan, asks staff to drop strike

Former Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar, who has suddenly changed his anti-Jagan Mohan Reddy rhetoric in the recent past, came to the defense of the Andhra Pradesh government on the ongoing agitation of the state employees.

On Monday, Vundavalli made an open appeal to the state government employees to drop their proposed indefinite strike plan in view of the precarious financial position of the state government.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc with the economy of the state as well as the central government. The employees should keep in mind while putting forth their demands,” he said.

He also advised the government not to adopt a stubborn stand and hold discussions with the employees. At the same time, the employees also should not take it as a prestigious issue but see that their problems are resolved through negotiations.

Vundavalli said never in the past did such a situation arise when the employees demanded that the revised pay scales be rolled back and old pay scales be continued.

“At the same time, the government is saying that the pay revision would cause a burden of Rs 10,247 crore on the state exchequer, while employee say they are getting lesser salaries. This is strange,” he said.
