With the Chandrababu Naidu-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh turning a blind eye towards their plight, village and ward volunteers have vowed to teach a lesson to the Telugu Desam Party and its allies in the upcoming MLC and local body elections in the state.
Honorary president of AP State Voluntary Association Gujjula Eshwarayya told reporters in Vijayawada on Saturday that the village and ward voiunteers would take up street-level protests against the indifferent attitude of the Naidu government in taking them back into the service.
Eshwarayya criticized the Naidu government for suppressing constitutional rights and engaging in illegal detentions and arrests.
He condemned the exploitation of village volunteers, accusing the government of breaking promises.
He recalled that before coming to power, Chandrababu Naidu had assured village volunteers of being reinstated in service and receiving a salary of Rs 10,000, instead of Rs 5,000 given during the YSR Congress party regime, but later reneged on these promises.
“Volunteers seeking to express their grievances were met with threats of sedition charges, detentions, and strict police action, including the setup of 18 checkpoints,” he alleged.
Eshwarayya questioned the integrity of the government and suggested burning their election manifesto as a protest.
He called for street-level protests and vowed to showcase their strength in the upcoming MLC and local body elections.
