At a time when Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been making a hue and cry over the proposal to shift executive capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam, his own party leaders from the port city gave him a rude shock on Wednesday.
Several TDP leaders from Visakhapatnam had a meeting at a five-star hotel in the city to discuss the latest controversy over the state capital issue and adopted a resolution to support chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s plan to shift the executive capital to Visakhapatnam.
A couple of TDP MLAs including former minister Ganta Srinivas Rao, who were present at the meeting welcomed the decision of Vizag becoming Executive Capital.
The TDP leaders openly told the media persons that they had no option but to welcome the proposal to have executive capital at Visakhapatnam, as north coastal Andhra had been neglected for generations.
At the same time, the TDP leaders also demanded that the government should give clarity on the future of the farmers who had given the land to build Amaravati. They said that they would forward their opinion to the TDP high command.
They said they would convey the opinion of the local people to the party high command and convince him about the new capital.
“We cannot go against the wishes of the people in our constituencies. We shall abide by whatever Naidu will take in this regard,” the TDP leaders said.
