Even as the probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the murder of Y S Vivekananda Reddy has made no headway till date, Telugu Desam Party in-charge of Pulivendula constituency B Tech Ravi on Wednesday came up with a fresh allegation.
He said Dr Chaitanya Reddy, son of Devireddy Shivashankar Reddy, a close aide of YSR Congress party MP Y S Avinash Reddy, conducted a bogus medical camp specifically to intimidate key accused Dastagiri in the case, when the latter was in the jail.
He alleged that the medical camp was orchestrated with the sole intention of exerting pressure on Dastagiri.
"Typically, when a medical camp is conducted in a jail, remand prisoners must be informed. However, when I was in Kadapa Central Jail under the YSRCP government, the jail authorities did not inform the prisoners about the camp,” he said.
Ravi said on that very day, he had told the jail officials that this was not the right approach, but they did not listen to him.
“Dastagiri was in the barrack opposite to mine and I saw Chaitanya Reddy entering his barrack to threaten him,” he said.
Early this month, Dastagiri, an approver in the Viveka murder case, appeared for an inquiry in Kadapa Central Jail and answered all the questions related to the medical camp conducted by Chaitanya Reddy.
Dastagiri said he had provided details about the officials, who harassed and falsely implicated him. He emphasised that several officials under the previous YSRCP regime had targeted him, and expressed confidence that justice would be ensured under the current government.
Dastagiri earlier filed a complaint alleging that he was coerced and threatened by officials and political figures during his remand in Kadapa Central Jail between October 2023 and February 2024.
He named Devireddy Chaitanya Reddy (A1), former jail superintendent Prakash (A2), DSP Nagaraju (A3), and CI Eswaraiah (A4) as those who intimidated him. His complaint, which was ignored under the previous YSRCP government, led to a case being registered in Pulivendula police station on February 3, 2025, following the change in dispensation.
Dastagiri alleged that on November 28, 2023, while he was held in SSR Barrack, Chaitanya Reddy visited the jail, and pressured him to change his statement in the Viveka murder case in favour of MP YS Avinash Reddy, YS Bhaskar Reddy, and Devireddy Siva Shankar Reddy.
He further claimed that he was offered Rs 20 crore to testify against CBI officer Ram Singh, and was threatened with death if he refused.
