VIP treatment to Borugadda: DSP under fire

The VIP treatment extended to notorious rowdy-sheeter and self-styled politician Borugadda Anil Kumar during police custody has created significant trouble for the Guntur police in Andhra Pradesh.

Twelve policemen, including two sub-inspectors, were already suspended for providing Anil Kumar with biryani, coffee, a bed, mattress, and bedsheets while he was in judicial remand.

Now, Guntur West DSP Jayaram Prasad faces disciplinary action for allegedly extending similar hospitality and showing negligence during the investigation.

Inspector General of Police Sarveshtri Tripathi has recommended strict action against the DSP in a report submitted to DGP D. Tirumala Rao.

Anil Kumar was held at the Guntur Andalapeta police station from October 26 to 29 for interrogation in a specific case.

Guntur SP Satish Kumar had directed DSP Jayaram Prasad to personally oversee and conduct a thorough investigation over three days. However, an inquiry revealed that the DSP only occasionally participated in the interrogation.

Meanwhile, station staff were found to have provided Anil Kumar with undue privileges, a lapse attributed to the DSP’s poor supervision.

IG Tripathi’s report has called for stringent measures, which could include withholding promotions, increments, and other financial benefits, according to police sources.
