After keeping silent for the last one week over the dispute between YSR Congress party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his sister Y S Sharmila over share of properties, their mother Y S Vijayamma opened up on Tuesday, defending her daughter’s claims but not making any adverse comments against her son.
In an open letter to the people and all the supporters of late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, Vijayamma appealed to them not to come to hasty conclusions and drag the prestige of the family on to the streets.
She expressed hope that the dispute would be resolved and her children would settle it amicably.
Stating that when her husband was alive, the entire family was extremely happy.
“But now, I don’t know what bad omen has struck my family and despite my attempts to prevent them, certain incidents were happening right in front of my eyes. People have been making unnecessary comments against this family and indulging in spreading of utter lies,” she lamented.
Vijayamma said she was forced to come out only to see that such rumours should not continue and spread further. This would not augur well not only to the family, but the entire state.
“Blood is thicker than water. I am sure both my children will come to a compromise and others should not make any provocative statements. Jesus, on whom I have lot of faith, will provide answers to all the doubts,” she said.
Vijayamma said all those, including Y V Subba Reddy and Vijay Sai Reddy, had spoken utter lies forgetting the fact that they were tarnishing the image of YSR family.
“They said YSR had distributed the assets between both my children when he was alive. This is a blatant lie,” she said.
She pointed out that YSR had only earmarked certain properties in the name of son and daughter when they were still growing.
“This doesn’t mean he had distributed properties in their name. They read out the list of properties written in the name of Sharmila. They should have also listed out the properties written in the name of Jagan,” she said.
She said Sai Reddy, being the auditor of the family companies and Subba Reddy, being a close relative of the family, were aware of the facts but they had chosen to lie and she was very much pained by their lies.
Vijayamma said YSR had mandated that all the properties should be equally distributed among the four grandchildren, including the companies established by Jagan.
“All the assets, including the companies floated by Jagan, are the family properties and Jagan was only a custodian of them. So, Sharmila has equal share in these properties. In fact, Jagan also gave the same promise to his father when the latter was alive,” she said.
The YSR’s wife said the amount of Rs 200 crore given to Sharmila was only 40 percent dividend she was entitled to get, after Jagan took his own share. Before writing the MoU, Sharmila was supposed to get 50% dividend.
After Jagan became the chief minister in 2019, he put forth the proposal before the family in Israel to divide the properties among the children. Accordingly, the MoU was signed. It was not a gift but the right of Sharmila and the responsibility of Jagan, she said.
“Jagan even mentioned in the MoU that since the Saraswati shares were not attached, he was giving 100 percent shares to Sharmila, besides 100 percent share in Yelahanka property immediately. But he did not give them and had done injustice even with regard to other properties which were not in attachment. Only properties like Bharati Cements, Sakshi media and YSR house, which were under attachment, would have to be given to Sharmila after the court cases,” she said.
Vijayamma alleged that Jagan had not involved Sharmila in his business activities nor had he encouraged her in politics. Yet, Sharmila had worked hard for Jagan in politics and played a lot of effort in bringing Jagan to power, she pointed out.
